Enriching Student Experiences Through A State-Of-The-Art Educational Center

Messiah College Winding Hill campus located in Mechanicsburg Pennsylvania, just a few miles away from the state capital Harrisburg and Messiah's main campus is a newly renovated, state-of-the-art 32,000 square-foot educational center. Architect on the project was Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates with an office located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.

Master of Occupational Therapy Facilities
Students in Messiah's master of occupational therapy program will have the opportunity to complete their course and lab work in a technologically advanced learning environment which includes the recent addition of an AV enriched cadaver lab and overflow room.

This unique teaching environment was challenged with providing a modern state-of-the-art experience for the students and the professor meeting the master of occupational therapy courseware goals. Hence Messiah College hired JP Lilley & Son, Inc to design and integrate an audio visual solution to meet these unique goals.

The teacher station is a fully function anatomy lab position with interactive controls and inputs to engage the students as they follow along at one of three student lab positions. The lab was prepared for four future additional student stations as the program evolves.

An Extron Electronics XTP CrossPoint 1600 frame was chosen to be the core matrix and distribution signal path since it would meet the demanding needs required by this teaching environment and layout. Extron XTP wall plate transmitters were utilized at each station to allow for content input into the matrix system and XTP wall plate receivers placed behind each IP rated Mirage Vision professional displays for content output. To complete the current video system chain a Vaddio RoboSHOT 30 HDBT with HD DomeVIEW was used above the teacher station which provides high resolution video images to the student workstations as well as to an overflow room across the hall.

Extron Electronics audio products were also chosen for this space. An Extron DMP128 which is a 12x8 ProDSP™ Digital Matrix Processor was used at the heart of the system. A ClearOne ceiling microphone was placed above the teacher station which is feeding the system and serves as the main audio source to the overflow room. An Extron XPA 2001-70V amplifier and FF 220T Full-Range Flat Field® speakers with low profile enclosure were used to complete the audio system in the lab.

The Extron IPCP Pro 350 IP Link Pro control processor was chosen to manage this teaching environment making the workflow and function user friendly. An ELO touch screen was used to drive the Extron TLI Pro 101 TouchLink interface which communicates with the control processor.
The two large format flat screens in the overflow room are able to have sources routed from the Extron XTP CrossPoint 1600 and DMP128 Digital Audio matrix's via an additional touch panel control surface. The overflow room allows students to observe in realtime the active cadaver lab session as well as critique their classmates.
